National dog Bite Prevention Week

The third week of May is National Dog Bite Prevention Week, established to make Americans aware that man's best friend sometimes has a bad side. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that at least half of the 800,000 people nationwide who seek treatment for dog bite wounds are children. At least a dozen die for their wounds.

The CDC offers up a comprehensive list of ways to prevent dog bites, as well as tips to pick the best dog for your family. If you are family is involved in an incident, listen to this Law in Your Life podcast with Kansas City attorney Keith Cutler. Cutler discusses the issue from all angles, and offers information to people who are bitten, or pet owners with a dog that has bitten someone.

The Houston Chronicle reports on the latest schemes to hit homeowners in foreclosure. They are perpetuated by individuals or companies that claim to be able to stop foreclosure immediately - but that's not the case. Some take a consulting fee and disappear, while others push homeowners to sign away their rights to the property.
